Biggies Bullies was founded in April, 2011.
After working in an animal shelter, Alli Stetz quickly realized how stressful a shelter environment can be for dogs. Even more, she found that bully breed type dogs were often discriminated against and many potential adopters were averse to adopting pitbulls due to misconceptions they were led to believe about the breed.
Biggies Bullies was purposefully founded as a foster home based rescue, without the intent to open a shelter of its own. Alli felt that it was important to allow these dogs to be shown in a home setting, not behind cage bars in a stressful shelter.
In 2021, Biggies Bullies announced A Biggies Bullies Headquarters! The new office space isn’t a place to house animals, all pups will still enjoy the comforts of foster homes. Instead, it’s a place for Biggies Bullies to continue to grow. A place for dogs to meet their potential families, for volunteers to hang out with fosters, and a meeting spot for orientations and trainings. It’s where we’ll be planning the future of Biggies Bullies.

]]>Louise! Louise is an amazing little house-hippo. They don't come any cuter than this. Currently she is under foster care through my favorite rescue Homeward Bound. She requires very little exercise- she is a lounging, napping, snoozing expert! Louise loves a cushy bed and a snuggly blanket, but squeaky toys do make her heart skip a beat. I had the pleasure to spend time with her and I can attest. She is wonderful. Just look at that SMILE!!
Lets help find this sweet senior girl the best home!

We are also an Adoption Center. That means when space allows, we are able to rescue cats & dogs from over-crowded, high-kill shelters and rescues. We work with local, regional and national shelters and rescue groups, saving lives wherever and whenever we can.
We do not discriminate against any breed, nor do we turn an animal away due to medical conditions or age. Each and every animal in our shelter receives individual consideration and attention, regardless of the number of animals we may have in our care. We believe that every animal has the right home and family waiting for them. Our goal is to operate to meet or exceed a 90% live release rate (a.k.a., “No-kill”).
We strive to be an exemplary shelter and adoption center through collaborative partnerships, responsible business practices, and exceptional customer service. It is our firm belief that working together, we can save more lives!

Homeward Bound is the leading animal welfare agency in the region with the highest intake and the highest save rate, achieving a 90% save rate in 2018. Our animal welfare and community service programs are supported by contributions, grants and bequests for program continuation and operational expansion.

Every day we provide quality medical care and housing for our animals as we strive to find them new loving homes or reunite lost pets with their owners.
As the animal shelter exclusively responsible for service to the City of Camden, as well as one of the top treatment providers in the County, we intake approximately 5,000 animals per year from 18 municipalities in Camden County. City of Camden intake amounts to nearly 50% of the County’s total animal population. With the exception of Homeward Bound, there are very few pet services available to the residents of the City of Camden

]]>Please take a moment and read the incredible story of Sgt Stubby. He saved the lives of many service men during the “War to end all wars” and was an inspiration to so many. He comforted and protected his men in their time of need. We salute you Sgt Stubby!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
America’s first war dog, Stubby, served 18 months ‘over there’ and participated in seventeen battles on the Western Front. He saved his regiment from surprise mustard gas attacks, located and comforted the wounded, and even once caught a German spy by the seat of his pants. Back home his exploits were front page news of every major newspaper.
Stubby was a bull terrier – broadly speaking, very broadly! No one ever discovered where he hailed from originally. One day he just appeared, when a bunch of soldiers were training at Yale Field in New Haven, Ct; he trotted in and out among the ranks as they drilled, stopping to make a friend here and a friend there, until pretty soon he was on chummy terms with the whole bunch.
One soldier though, in particular, developed a fondest for the dog, a Corporal Robert Conroy, who when it became time for the outfit to ship out, hid Stubby on board the troop ship.
So stowaway Stubby sailed for France, after that Cpl. Conroy became his accepted master, even though he was still on chummy terms with everyone else in the outfit; and in the same spirit of camaraderie that had marked his initial overtures at Yale.
It was at Chemin des Dames that Stubby saw his first action, and it was there that the boys discovered he was a war dog par excellence. The boom of artillery fire didn’t faze him in least, and he soon learned to follow the men’s example of ducking when the big ones started falling close. Naturally he didn’t know why he was ducking, but it became a great game to see who could hit the dugout first. After a few days, Stubby won every time. He could hear the whine of shells long before the men. It got so they’d watch him!
Then one night Stubby made doggy history. It was an unusually quiet night in the trenches. Some of the boys were catching cat naps in muddy dugouts, and Stubby was stretched out beside Conroy. Suddenly his big blunt head snapped up and his ears pricked alert. The movement woke Conroy, who looked at the dog sleepily just in time to see him sniff the air tentatively, utter a low growl, then spring to his feet, and go bounding from the dugout, around a corner out of sight.
A few seconds later there was a sharp cry of pain and then the sound of a great scuffle outside. Conroy jumped from his bed, grabbed his rifle and went tearing out towards the direction of the noise.
A ludicrous sight met his eyes. Single-pawed, in a vigorous offensive from the rear, Stubby had captured a German spy, who’d been prowling through the trenches. The man was whirling desperately in an effort to shake off the snarling bundle of canine tooth and muscle that had attached itself to his differential. But Stubby was there to stay.
It took only a few moments to capture the Hun and disarm him, but it required considerably more time to convince Stubby that his mission had been successfully carried out and that he should now release the beautiful hold he had on that nice, soft German bottom.
By the end of the war, Stubby was known not only to every regiment, division, and army, but to the whole AEF. Honors by the bale were heaped on his muscled shoulders. At Mandres en Bassigny he was introduced to President Woodrow Wilson, who “shook hands” with him. Medal and emblemed jackets were bestowed upon him for each deed of valor, plus a wound stripe for his grenade splinter. Not to be left out, the Marines even made him an honorary sergeant.
After the Armistice was signed, Stubby returned home with Conroy and his popularity seemed to grow even more. He became a nationally acclaimed hero, and eventually was received by presidents Harding and Coolidge. Even General John “Black Jack” Pershing, who commanded the American Expeditionary Forces during the war, presented Stubby with a gold medal made by the Humane Society and declared him to be a “hero of the highest caliber.”
Stubby toured the country by invitation and probably led more parades than any other dog in American history; he was also promoted to honorary sergeant by the Legion, becoming the highest ranking dog to ever serve in the Army.
He was even made an honorary member of the American Red Cross, the American Legion and the YMCA, which issued him a lifetime membership card good for “three bones a day and a place to sleep.”
Afterwards, Stubby became Georgetown University’s mascot. In 1921, Stubby’s owner, Robert Conroy was headed to Georgetown for law school and took the dog along. According to a 1983 account in Georgetown Magazine, Stubby “served several terms as mascot to the football team.” Between the halves, Stubby would nudge a football around the field, much to the delight of the crowd.
Old age finally caught up with the small warrior on April 4th, 1926, as he took ill and died in Conroy’s arms.
It’s said, that Stubby and a few of his friends were instrumental in inspiring the creation of the United States ‘K-9 Corps’ just in time for World War ll.

We are a 100% volunteer run organization, with every dog living in a wonderful foster home from the day it becomes a part of our rescue until the day they get adopted into an amazing forever home. All of our dogs get neutered or spayed, are given all state mandated vaccinations, are microchipped, and if needed, receive other major veterinary care such as surgery or treatments for diseases and infections.
When a dog becomes a member of Peace for Pits, it becomes a member for life. We are here for continued support for each adopted dog. We stay in frequent contact with each and every adopter to assure they have all the knowledge and tools to care for their four legged family member. We do all of this to make sure each dog lives a life of PEACE. Everything we do is to make sure each dog lives a life of PEACE.
All Peace for Pits pups are placed into loving, caring foster homes until they are ready to be adopted by their responsible, loving new families. While in their foster homes, our pups are working on learning things like crate training, potty training, and basic commands so they can truly shine! Being a foster based rescue, we get to know all of our dogs very well, this ensures finding the best dog match to fit your lifestyle.

Lilo’s Promise places the utmost importance on obedience and socialization for the majority of the dogs we take in. Trained dogs tend to stay in their adoptive homes and a trained dog is a happier dog! And therefore makes for a happy owner! Because we personally train each dog it helps us form a stronger bond with them. Knowing our dogs so well, helps us make a better placement.
